PREPARING FOR INTERVIEW AT A TOP INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

LET ME HELP GIVE YOUR CHILD CONFIDENCE IN PREPARATION FOR UPCOMING 13+ INTERVIEWS

13+ interviews can be tough and the process can be daunting for children. The key to succeeding in a 13+ interview is keeping calm, listening to the questions and unpacking them so that they can be answered properly. Like any interview, preparation and practice are really important and will help your child feel in control. If you want to give your child more confidence during the 13+ interview process, I can help. Together, let’s help your children shine!

During the process, the interviewer wants to learn about your child - their interests, passions and personality. These questions require no additional knowledge as they focus totally on the child so this is a great opportunity to show what kind of student, and person, your child is. An interview is a great opportunity for your child to showcase who they really are and confidence is key!

At this age, your child may have acquired a range of skills through hobbies and extra-curricular activities. They will have the opportunity to share their achievements and ambitions. I want to help them actually enjoy the experience and feel happy about the process.

I offer bespoke interview preparation sessions with students sitting the independent school exams (both 11+ and 13+). The feedback from past students, and their parents, has shown that interview preparation can be helpful in getting children a place at their chosen school. As well as my bespoke one to one sessions I also run workshops for schools. If you’re a school, please do get in touch to discuss how I can help your Year 7 and 8 pupils go on to achieve success in their 13+ interviews.

During our sessions, I will explain how the interview process works, why they are being interviewed and how the children can feel in control of this new, and perhaps daunting, situation. I will go through the types of questions they might be asked, discussing how best to answer these questions. It is important that the answers come from the children, not me or their parents.

My job is to help children feel prepared, feel good about themselves and present with confidence. We discuss the importance of body language and how this is impacted with many interviews taking place online as well as in person.

I am based in St Johns Wood, London and currently my interview preparation sessions are taking place virtually. I recommend an initial 75 minute consultation, then offer 45 minutes or one hour sessions.
